Santa Cruz Skateboards was founded by Richard Novak, Doug Haut, and Jay Shuirman in 1973. Launching out of Santa Cruz California. The brand Santa Cruz Skateboards is heavily influenced by California surf culture and aesthetic. Launching with a first run of 50 skateboards made from surfboard material scraps, 50 years later Santa Cruz Skateboards has a reputation and legacy in the elite class of skateboard brands and skateboard history.

The world famous Santa Cruz ''Screaming Hand'' was designed by renowned skateboard artist Jim Philips Sr in 1985. The Screaming Hand logo is a popular and recognisable staple in mainstream culture.
